今日は、金属から少し離れて、ワックスで指輪を作りました。
真鍮板や銅板から作るのとは、まったく製作工程が違うので、びっくりです。
まず、チューブワックス(指輪用に、丸棒の中心がくりぬいてあるワックス)を、作りたい幅に切ります。
リーマ(これも初登場！サイズ棒のようなものですが、これも刃になっています)に差し込み、くるくる回して削りながら作りたいリングのサイズまで持っていきます。
作りたいリングの厚みをけがいて、余分な部分を削れば、完成。
...のはずが。ワックスは、本当にスルスルと、うそみたいに削れてしまうのです。
切り出したものをやすっていると、気がついたら厚みがなくなってしまっている...、、という失敗を繰り返すことしきりでした。
悲しくも短くなっていくチューブワックス...。
金属とは全く違う軟らかい素材に、予想外に四苦八苦！
何度も確認しながら、慎重に作業を進める大切さを学びました。
このワックスが、キャストで作る指輪の原型になります。
軟らかいワックスなどを組み合わせれば、さまざまな表情のジュエリーを作ることができる、可能性無限大！の素材です。
